CUBA
CAÍDA
Starting with visual documentation of the structural collapses that are progressively disfiguring Havana and many other cities, "Cuba Caída" (Fallen Cuba) is a photographic reportage that draws a parallel between the physical crumbling of buildings and the socio-economic implosion of the entire island.
The project explores the dramatic plight of a people pushed to the brink by an unprecedented humanitarian crisis, marked by chronic shortages of food, electricity, fuel, and medicine. Through glimpses of the streets and the interiors of homes, the work documents the reality faced by thousands of people forced to live displaced from their families due to building collapses, hurricanes, and floods.
In a context where even tourism, historically a vital source of income for the population, appears completely paralyzed, urban rubble becomes a visual metaphor for a country in limbo, balanced precariously between the dignity of its people and total collapse.
